  • Our wine quality starts with an unending passion to make the best wines possible. To make those wines, we start with a tremendous site rich with limestone that provides good nutrient flow and great soil drainage. Our high elevation site gently sends the spring frosts below the vineyard ensuring our primary buds will blossom. Next, we ferment and age our wines in only the finest winemaking equipment that exists.

Finally, the winemaker's art takes over. That art, a blend of the traditional, the cutting-edge and the "nothing risked, nothing gained" attitude Jim provides, makes for distinctive bottles of wine you may never taste elsewhere. In the end, you may enjoy a straight varietal wine such as Traminette, or a complex blend such as Joe's Jammin' Red.

Visiting our winery provides you not only with insight as to how wine is made but the pleasurable experience of wine tasting. As you first step foot the grounds you immediately see our chambourcin vines growing down the driveway.

Walking through the winery's door will place you into the tasting room, but you'll quickly notice that we placed a direct access into the production area. On most weekends, we're busy working with the wines. We'll be glad to tell you what's happening and if the timing is right, we welcome you to taste the wines in process. This openness allows us to create a detailed interactive experience for you.

  • When Laura and Jim first purchased the farm in 1997 to begin the dream of owning a winery, we quickly noticed a large population of turtles on the property including a large alligator snapper that crossed the driveway the second time they saw the farm.

This abundance of turtles provided a unique idea of naming the winery. Since then, the popularity of Turtle Run Winery has grown beyond the local region and has attracted winery visitors from all across the United States and many countries as well. Many visit simply for our namesake.

The turtle or love of turtle collectibles attracts some of our patrons to visit the winery. The story or how the name came about is a staple of our Winery brand.

Our Vineyard At Turtle Run, experience the passion of winemaking at it's fullest. Whether it's a full bodied red wine, a captivating white, dry, sweet or Port, we put every ounce of passion we have into every wine. With our motto of "exceptional quality wine that goes with food and friends", you can expect us to deliver a wine that will dazzle your senses! Founded in 2000 by Laura and Jim Pfeiffer, Turtle Run Winery has developed key innovations in winemaking including stratified red wine fermentation, the introduction of the French term "terroir" into barrel making, and just recently, a very complex barrel renewal process that, so far, has yielded greater intensity in red wine aging.  With more that 25 wines on our list, we're sure we can please the most discriminate palates.

Take a tour of the winery. We'll explain to you in a very non-technical, easy to understand way, the subtleties of the winemaking and aging process. How do barrels made from Minnesota oak differ in flavor from those made from oak grown in Ohio, Tennessee or Kentucky? How does a much more expensive bladder press positively affect the flavors of each wine? How does blending enhance many of the wines at Turtle Run? These questions and many more are answered.

The Wine List continues to morph in size.  Choose from 11 great Dry Reds, including the highly acclaimed Max's Small Batch Red.  Our 8 wonderfully Dry Whites not only include the Traminette, but the outstanding Vignoles 2010.  If sweet is your taste, experience a unique Turtle Run Winery concept outside of California -- Naturally sweet wines with no added sugar!  That's right, at Turtle Run Winery we beat by our own drum and do not add sugar to sweeten wine!  And it does taste different and better!  Simply put, the natural sweetness of grapes is far superior because it doesn't leave that nasty cloying sensation at the back of the mouth that sugar and other sweeteners create in wine.  Clean, refreshingly sweet.  The way Mother Nature intended!  We'll even train your taste buds so you can recognize the difference every time.  Dry wine drinkers listen up!  Try a glass of Catherine's Blend and taste why it's our number 1 selling wine!  Be delightfully surprised with sweet wine made naturally.
